Slalom Sessions
Lake Saint Louis Water Ski Club – Junior Slalom Sessions
Welcome to the next season of Junior Slalom Sessions for the LSL Water Ski Club. Any junior skier that is a member of the LSL Water Ski Club is encouraged to participate. The slalom course is located by the spillway. Please talk to the 3-event coach for coaching opportunities.
The purpose of the activity is to encourage more kids to start using the slalom course, learn how to use the course correctly, ignite a competitive spirit among peers, and have some friendly encouragement. It is expected that there will be a broad disparity of ability in the group – this is good. I’m hoping the older kids with more experience will help the younger kids improve. At a minimum, the Junior Slalom Sessions will be a stepping stone to participating in the LSL Water Ski Team 3-Event Junior Tournament Team*. Please do not expect professional instruction, but assistance for your child to learn about the slalom course and 3-event skiing. Experienced skiers on the lake are welcome to help out.
Each participant is expected to bring a ski vest, ski, gloves (if needed), and their own towel. We have a team slalom ski for use, if needed. Each skier should already know how to slalom, perform a deep water start, and feel comfortable crossing the wakes. All skiers will be working on learning the slalom course and trying to make a full pass at a tournament minimum speed.
Hopefully the younger skiers will learn some useful information regarding the slalom course. I will try to set up (and am currently in discussions with) professional instructors for a couple clinic days to work on advanced skills. Any help from experienced skiers on the team would be greatly appreciated.
Please see the 3-event coach to sign up for the LSL Water Ski Club Junior Slalom Sessions and let me know if you can help in any way. The following dates are planned for practice. Hopefully we will see more kids using the slalom course this year and in the future. All those who are able to complete a full pass of the slalom course are encouraged to join the LSL Water Ski Team 3-Event Junior Tournament Team.
To be eligible for the LSL 3-Event Junior Tournament Team, the skier must pass the performance standard as follows:
